Bowlero Lanes & Lounge has officially become a Certified Autism Center by gaining accreditation from the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). With its dedication towards inclusive progress and sensitivity training from leading autism experts, Bowlero is now the only bowling alley in Michigan to hold such a coveted distinction. The desired outcome of this acquisition is to create a comfortable setting for everyone with physical, cognitive, and/or neurological challenges when they participate in the league or use any of the sensory aids provided by Bowlero that includes weighted blankets/vests, noise-canceling headphones, visual timers, and an accessibility ramp and bowling ball ramp.

Bowlero Lanes & Lounge has been successfully designated as a Certified Autism Center (CAC) by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). This prestigious certification is awarded to organizations that strive to be inclusive through comprehensive training from leading autism experts. Families with autism and other sensory concerns can now benefit from Bowlero’s accommodations, making it the only bowling alley in Michigan to hold such an accreditation. As Kelly Elliott, Bowlero’s owner and former school psychologist for 15 years, says: “It fills me with happiness to see all the students having fun and their parents’ joy watching them participate in the league and socialize with each other. They are all so grateful!” Bowlero’s commitment to inclusivity and accessibility extends beyond its accommodations for autism and sensory concerns. The bowling alley also offers adaptive equipment and specialized programs for individuals with physical disabilities, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the sport. This dedication to creating a welcoming environment for all patrons sets Bowlero apart as a leader in inclusive recreational activities.

Welcoming Environment for All

Bowlero is proud to provide families with autism and special with ds a safe, welcoming environment. Since 2019, Bowlero has held a certification that has been renewed in 2021 with staff training. They have implemented sensory hours, as well as a drop-in bowling league on Wednesdays from 4-6 p.m., where bowlers and their families with physical, cognitive, and/or neurological challenges are welcome. To ensure the comfort of all guests, Bowlero provides sensory aids such as weighted blankets/vests, noise-canceling headphones, and visual timers, as well as an accessibility ramp and bowling ball ramp. Visitors to the drop-in league can just show up – reservations are not required!
