Burn Calories Before Turkey: Hot Toddy Trot in Royal Oak

by | Nov 18, 2024

Looking for a way to justify that extra slice of pumpkin pie? The Hot Toddy Trot might be just what you need! This Thanksgiving Day 5K group run/walk in Royal Oak, Michigan, is the perfect way to kick off your holiday festivities with a dash of fitness and a lot of fun.

When and Where

Mark your calendars for Thursday, November 28, 2024, from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM EST. The event begins at the Max Broock / Real Estate One office at 26236 Woodward Ave, Royal Oak, MI 48067. That’s right in the heart of Royal Oak, so there’s no need to travel far if you’re a local turkey!

What’s the Deal?

Now in its 11th year, the Hot Toddy Trot isn’t your typical stuffy race. It’s more like a moving party with a side of exercise. The organizers, Andrea Carollo and the Broock Run Club have cooked up a casual 5K route through Royal Oak and Huntington Woods. Don’t worry, it’s not a real race – there are no timing chips or finish line anxiety here. Just good old-fashioned fun with a dash of holiday spirit.

The Main Course

The real feast begins after you’ve trotted your way through the neighborhoods. No, not the turkey dinner – that comes later. We’re talking about the after-party! Head back to the starting point for refreshments, Krispy Kreme donuts (because why not?), and some silly awards. You might walk away with the “Most Likely to Nap After This” trophy!

The Cherry on Top

As if burning calories before the big meal wasn’t enough, the first 100 participants get a cool Hot Toddy Trot Finisher Medal. It’s the perfect accessory for Thanksgiving dinner when your aunt asks if you’ve been working out.

What’s on the Menu?

  • A 5K route through Royal Oak and Huntington Woods
  • Marked course with route maps available
  • Indoor after-party with refreshments
  • Krispy Kreme donuts (because running)
  • Silly awards ceremony
  • Custom finisher medals for the first 100 people
  • Free parking in the attached lot and neighborhood
  • Bathrooms available inside the office (trust us, this is important)

Who’s Invited?

Everyone! Bring your friends, family, and even your four-legged running buddies (as long as they’re friendly and leashed). Got a little turkey in training? Strollers are welcome, too. The more, the merrier!

The Fine Print

Here’s the best part – it’s FREE! That’s right, there’s no entry fee for this community event. However, the organizers do ask that you sign up if you plan to show up, and show up if you’ve signed up. It’s not just good manners; it helps them plan for the right amount of donuts. And let’s be honest, nobody wants to live in a world with too few donuts.

Why Should You Go?

Thanksgiving can be a bit… intense. Between the cooking, the family dynamics, and the impending food coma, it’s nice to have a little breather. The Hot Toddy Trot lets you start your day on a high note, meet new friends, and earn those extra mashed potatoes. Plus, you’ll have a great excuse to wear your stretchiest pants to dinner – you’re an athlete now, after all!

The Cherry on Top

By the way, this fantastic event is included in our Thanksgiving Guide 2024. So you know it’s legit!

So, whether you’re a seasoned runner or only run when chased, the Hot Toddy Trot is the perfect way to start your Thanksgiving. It’s a chance to move your legs before you stuff your face, laugh with friends before you argue with family, and remind yourself that the holiday season is about more than just food (but the food is still pretty important).

Remember, in the grand tradition of Thanksgiving, this event is all about community, gratitude, and having a good time. So lace up those sneakers, grab your sense of humor, and get ready to trot like a turkey. Your stomach (and your conscience) will thank you later!
