The audience’s favorite Hani sandwich has just made a comeback with National Coney Island opening their first spin-off restaurant: Pop’s Hani Shop. With a limited menu leaning on the use of local products and in-house-made items, this is the first major spin-off concept by the National Coney Island since the brief express service location near Michigan State University’s campus.
Pop’s Hani Shop has proudly created a menu featuring National Coney Island’s beloved Hani sandwich. This sandwich, originating at the Seven Mile and Mack store in the 1980s, features a unique combination of breaded chicken, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and a special mayo sauce that has proven to be a massive success. The Hani sandwich has become increasingly popular, even rivaling Detroit-style coney dogs, according to National Coney Island president Tom Giftos.
A Delicious New Addition to Royal Oak’s Culinary Scene
Last April, the chain opened its first spin-off restaurant – Pop’s Hani Shop in Royal Oak – which celebrates its grand opening on May 11. This marks National Coney Island’s first major spin-off concept since a brief experiment with an express service location near Michigan State University’s campus.
At Pop’s Hani Shop, customers can enjoy an “elevated Hani experience” with a limited menu and an emphasis on using local products and making items in-house. National Coney Island is proud to have partnered with Grand Rapids-based Brix Soda Co., which uses natural cane sugar in its beverages, in order to bring this unique concept to life.
Chicken sandwiches are available either breaded or grilled, as well as inventive riffs on the classic sandwich like a “Spicy Southwest” version with Chipotle Aioli and “The Parm,” an Italian-themed take with mozzarella cheese, fresh basil, and house-made marinara sauce. Customers can also enjoy other Greek-American coney island favorites like coney dogs, burgers, and gyros, along with soups and salads, all for just $9.75. The menu also offers a variety of vegetarian options such as a veggie burger and a Greek salad with feta cheese and Kalamata olives. Additionally, customers can choose from a selection of sides including crispy fries, onion rings, or a side of coleslaw to complete their meal.
But what makes this new restaurant truly special is its streamlined ordering system. Customers can simply order at the counter and their food will be brought out to them. To top it off, they can also enjoy refreshing drinks from the fountain. It’s a great way to simplify the restaurant experience while still offering delicious and quality food at an affordable price.
Last May 11, National Coney Island and Pop’s Hani Shop in a new era of classic American diner cuisine with the opening of their unique twist on a beloved hometown sandwich. The chain’s decision to introduce the elevated Hani experience has proven to be an ambitious move – but it’s one that may ultimately prove successful as locals enjoy locally-made ingredients and soda along with the big flavor of their famous Hani sandwiches. With Pop’s Hani Shop, customers can finally enjoy a perfect storm of flavor that National Coney Island or Mack enthusiasts can appreciate.
